Conference on U.N. Reform

April 3, 2006

You are invited to attend a conference on UN Reform, which will be held at the in the Moot Court Room of Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law on April 3, beginning at 9:15 AM. Two topics will be addressed - the newly established Human Rights Council and the Peace-Building Commission, which is already in operation.

The speakers for the Human Rights Council session, which begins at 9:30 AM, include Will Davis, Director of the UN Information Center, Lawrence Moss, Special Counsel on UN Reform at Human Rights Watch, and Ruth Wedgwood, Director of the International Law and Organization Program at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced Studies (SAIS). Professor Karla Simon of the Law School will moderate the Human Rights Council panel.

The second panel includes Peter Gantz, Peacekeeping Advocate with Refugees International, Fr. William Headley, Counselor to the President, Catholic Relief Services, and an as yet undesignated person from the UN. Associate Professor Maryann Cusimano-Love of the CUA Politics Department will moderate the Peace-Building Commission Panel, which will begin at 12:30 PM.

A box lunch will be served at 12:00 noon. Please see the attached Agenda for further information.
